Greater Spotted Woodpecker Feeding Young

Whilst out walking with my dad we heard a noise which i thought must have been young woodpeckers inside a tree. Sire enough while standing distant we saw one of the adults fly in with food.A few days later i went back with what i thought was the right equipment to photograph the feeding but quickly realised if I was anywhere near the nest the birds would not appear. Obviously i realised very quickly this was bad! So quickly backed off and decided on a different approach. The following day i went back with a long lens, a tripod and a remote release. This way I could set up and then retreat a further 50 meters and wait with binoculars. It's quite amazing how often these birds come in with beaks full of insects and caterpillars. IMHO one of the great wildlife events to photograph in the UK - if done respectfully!
